The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DHLUC) has updated the How-to-Rent Guide, one of the prescribed documents that Landlords and Agents need to issue pre-Tenancy and on renewal of a contract.
Key revisions and notes are as follows:
🔹 Approved Identity Service Providers for UK/Irish citizens under Right-to-Rent
🔹 Mandatory to have a Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms in a property where there is a combustible gas appliance (excluding a gas cooker)
🔹 Changes to the Code of Practice on Right-to-Rent to Rent Civil Penalty Scheme for Landlords and Agents
🔹 Where existing versions may have been provided in advance, the new version should be issued for each new Tenancy or contract Renewal
🔹 The guide must be given to tenants either as a hard copy or, if they agree, via email as a PDF attachment
🔹 Failure to provide Tenants with an updated How-to-Rent guide before serving a Section 21 notice will mean that the notice is invalid
